SWIFT connectivity model advisory

Every institution connecting to SWIFT faces the same early decision: connect directly to SWIFTNet, route through a service bureau, or adopt a cloud-based access model.

Overview

Run Ventures advises banks, PSPs and vendors on weighing these options against their transaction volumes, message types, internal technology resourcing and compliance obligations — the right model for a large bank running high message volumes is rarely the right one for a smaller PSP.

We support the evaluation of connectivity providers and service bureaus, help clients plan the technical and operational onboarding involved in a connectivity change, and manage the migration itself so message flows continue uninterrupted through the transition.

For institutions reassessing their SWIFT footprint as volumes or regulatory requirements change, Run Ventures brings the practical experience to make that connectivity decision with confidence.

What we do

  • Model evaluation

Weighing direct, bureau and cloud access against volumes, message types, resourcing and obligations.

  • Provider & bureau evaluation

Supporting the evaluation of connectivity providers and service bureaus.

  • Onboarding plan

Planning the technical and operational onboarding a connectivity change involves.

  • Migration management

Managing the migration itself so message flows continue uninterrupted.

What we weigh

The right model for a large bank running high message volumes is rarely the right one for a smaller PSP. Direct access, a service bureau and cloud connectivity are weighed against four factors:

  • Transaction volumes. How much traffic the model has to carry today, and as volumes change.
  • Message types. The mix of flows the institution sends and receives over SWIFT.
  • Technology resourcing. What the internal team can realistically run and support.
  • Compliance obligations. The regulatory requirements the connectivity model has to meet.

A connectivity decision rarely stands alone. It pairs with FIN messaging & Alliance support on the messaging side and with sanctions & compliance on the obligations side.
